I knew it was only a matter of time. I had to buy a scanner because it was 6AM and only Walmart was open. Turns out the engine had Dr Pepper instead of oil and Pringles cans in place of the pistons.
Nah, just a broken gas cap. I took it off and put it back twice and no dice, so definitely not just loose. Crazy that it didn't happen until after I burned through half a tank. I wonder what let it go so long before failing.

It depends on when and how often the truck performs an Evap check. I don’t hunk it’s a continuous monitor.

I had something similar happen. I filled the tank and, the next day, the check engine light appeared. T he error code indicated an EVAP leak. The gas cap was loose, so I tightened it, but the light did not go out. I searched some forums and found that it takes time for the error code to correct itself. In fact, t hree days passed before the light went out. Apparently, some vehicles take even longer.

It’s not a bad truck at all! I’m not sure how the manuals are, but the auto doesn't feel like it's shorting me on power or anything.

That’s good to hear. The only reason I want a manual is less shit to break. The older I get, the less complication I want. Thanks for the heads up!
